Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TO:OGC), which rose 7.13% or 0.310 points to trade at 4.660 at the close. Tahoe Resources Inc (TO:THO) added 5.87% or 1.20 points to end at 21.66 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) was up 5.44% or 1.230 points to 23.850 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gran Tierra Energy Inc . (TO:GTE), which lost 5.29% or 0.200 points to trade at 3.580 in late trade. Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) declined 4.69% or 0.56 points to end at 11.38 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) shed 4.43% or 0.29 points to 6.26.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 681 to 479 and 126 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.41% to 12.38.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.85 to $1352.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 3.02% or 1.29 to hit $41.48 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.47% or 1.11 to trade at $43.87 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.47% to 0.7658, while CAD/EUR fell 0.09% to 0.6851.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.51% at 95.57.
