Alexis Tsipras won his elections for the second time this year. His party, Syriza, took in 35.5% of the votes against 28% for the closest challenger, the New Democracy. Syriza will therefore be able to form another coalition government, which reassured observers that the bailout plan adopted earlier this year will be complied with, at least in the short term. The euro still lost some points over the weekend, however. This morning we will have Canadian Wholesale Sales (July) at 8:30 a.m. The market is forecasting an increase of 0.8% compared to 1.3% for June. A weaker figure would probably stop the CAD from reclaiming the ground it lost last Friday. At 10:00 a.m. we will have Existing Home Sales in the U.S. (August), which are expected to decline by 1.6%. Lastly, markets will focus on Fed Member Dennis Lockhart's speech on the economy at 1 p.m.
