Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Financials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 2.49%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Localiza Rent a Car SA (SA:RENT3), which fell 0.34% or 0.13 points to trade at 37.62 at the close. CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) fell 0.37% or 0.09 points to end at 24.01 and Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3) was down 0.51% or 0.36 points to 70.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which lost 7.83% or 0.540 points to trade at 6.360 in late trade. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) declined 7.12% or 2.04 points to end at 26.60 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 6.32% or 0.27 points to 4.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 264 to 106 and 19 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.95% to 38.10 a new 1-month high.

In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.28% or 3.60 to $1304.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.57% or 0.71 to hit $44.63 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract rose 1.68% or 2.73 to trade at $165.68 .

USD/BRL was up 0.19% to 3.2419, while EUR/BRL rose 0.26% to 3.6004.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.22% at 97.18.
