Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Resources and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Corp Trav F (AX:CTD), which rose 6.51% or 0.850 points to trade at 13.910 at the close. Mineral Resources Ltd (AX:MIN) added 6.03% or 0.350 points to end at 6.150 and Isentia Group Ltd (AX:ISD) was up 5.74% or 0.190 points to 3.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sai Global Ltd (AX:SAI), which lost 4.48% or 0.165 points to trade at 3.515 in late trade. Syrah Res F (AX:SYR) declined 3.43% or 0.130 points to end at 3.660 and Evolution Mining Ltd (AX:EVN) shed 2.90% or 0.045 points to 1.505.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 559 to 393 and 320 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.31% to 18.850 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.03% or 0.40 to $1230.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.48% or 0.89 to hit $36.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.64% or 0.62 to trade at $38.49 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.19% to 0.7558, while AUD/JPY rose 0.17% to 83.37.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.11% at 94.71.
