Investing.com – Italy stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Telecoms, Financials and Chemicals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Milan, the Investing.com Italy 40 lost 4.89% to hit a new 52-week low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com Italy 40 were Italcementi (MI:ITAI), which fell 0.49% or 0.050 points to trade at 10.150 at the close. Meanwhile, STMicroelectronics (MI:STM) fell 1.17% or 0.065 points to end at 5.485 and Tod'S (MI:TOD) was down 1.83% or 1.25 points to 67.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS), which fell 22.20% or 0.1455 points to trade at 0.5100 at the close. Banco Popolare Sc (MI:BAPO) declined 10.88% or 1.0600 points to end at 8.6850 and Saipem (MI:SPMI) was down 10.44% or 0.6550 points to 5.6200.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Milan Stock Exchange by 413 to 23 and 3 ended unchanged.
Shares in Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena SpA (MI:BMPS) fell to 3-years lows; falling 22.20% or 0.1455 to 0.5100. Shares in Banco Popolare Sc (MI:BAPO) fell to 52-week lows; falling 10.88% or 1.0600 to 8.6850. Shares in Tod'S (MI:TOD) fell to 52-week lows; losing 1.83% or 1.25 to 67.00. Shares in Saipem (MI:SPMI) fell to 5-year lows; down 10.44% or 0.6550 to 5.6200.
Crude oil for March delivery was down 6.32% or 1.87 to $27.70 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 5.44% or 1.56 to hit $27.20 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.75% or 19.10 to trade at $1108.20 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was up 0.17% to 1.0927, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.7708.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 98.94.
