LONDON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - Britain's wheat imports rose in June to the highest monthly level in the 2016/17 season, far outpacing exports, customs data showed on Tuesday.
Imports in June climbed to 251,540 tonnes, bringing the total for the 2016/17 season (July/June) to 1.92 million tonnes, up from 1.50 million in 2015/16.
France was the biggest supplier in June, shipping 117,646 tonnes for a cumulative total for the season of 308,842 tonnes, almost double the 156,728 tonnes in 2015/16.
Canada was the biggest source of wheat for the season with 15,504 tonnes in June for a cumulative total of 360,573 tonnes, up from 355,127 tonnes in the year earlier period.
Exports in June totalled 44,720 tonnes for a cumulative total for the season of 1.44 million, sharply down from 2.86 million in the prior season.
