Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Tobacco and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF), which rose 5.88% or 20.60 points to trade at 371.20 at the close. SKY PLC (LON:SKYB) added 2.37% or 24.00 points to end at 1037.00 and Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR) was up 2.02% or 62.50 points to 3165.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which lost 5.64% or 21.400 points to trade at 357.800 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 5.39% or 29.80 points to end at 523.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 4.43% or 44.00 points to 950.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1084 to 1028 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.99% or 24.80 to $1223.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.09% or 1.28 to hit $40.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.44% or 1.02 to trade at $40.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.80% to 1.4095, while EUR/GBP rose 0.42% to 0.7928.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 96.15.
