Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Oil & Gas Producers and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.86%, while the SBF 120 index lost 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Legrand SA (PA:LEGD), which rose 1.06% or 0.49 points to trade at 47.05 at the close. L`Oreal SA (PA:OREP) added 0.58% or 0.90 points to end at 154.80 and Essilor International Compagnie Generale d`Optique SA (PA:ESSI) was up 0.27% or 0.30 points to 111.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which lost 8.02% or 0.37 points to trade at 4.29 in late trade. Renault SA (PA:RENA) declined 4.34% or 3.80 points to end at 83.70 and Technip (PA:TECF) shed 3.58% or 1.78 points to 47.95.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were DBV Technologies (PA:DBV) which rose 4.29% to 53.970, Vicat (PA:VCTP) which was up 1.98% to settle at 55.54 and Legrand SA (PA:LEGD) which gained 1.06% to close at 47.05.
The worst performers were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which was down 8.02% to 4.29 in late trade, CGG (PA:GEPH) which lost 7.41% to settle at 0.75 and Renault SA (PA:RENA) which was down 4.34% to 83.70 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 440 to 241 and 95 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 7.03% to 26.69.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.14% or 1.80 to $1265.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 3.35% or 1.27 to hit $36.63 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.57% or 1.05 to trade at $39.79 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.04% to 1.1018, while EUR/GBP rose 0.31% to 0.7745.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 97.10.
