Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 declined 0.03%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Meggitt PLC (LONDON:MGGT), which rose 7.93% or 36.80 points to trade at 501.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Smiths Group PLC (LONDON:SMIN) added 4.44% or 51.00 points to end at 1200.00 and Old Mutual PLC (LONDON:OML) was up 2.81% or 6.00 points to 219.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Shire PLC (LONDON:SHP), which fell 5.85% or 335.00 points to trade at 5395.00 at the close. Coca Cola HBC AG (LONDON:CCH) declined 5.66% or 76.0 points to end at 1268.0 and ARM Holdings PLC (LONDON:ARM) was down 4.53% or 45.00 points to 948.50.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1358 to 1175 and 479 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.24% or 2.60 to $1092.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.97% or 0.89 to hit $46.06 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.10% or 0.55 to trade at $50.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.5609, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.7019.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.08% at 97.53.
