Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Tobacco and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW), which rose 4.08% or 7.10 points to trade at 180.90 at the close. Meanwhile, AstraZeneca PLC (L:AZN) added 4.01% or 164.00 points to end at 4258.00 and Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (L:IMT) was up 3.91% or 135.00 points to 3589.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tui AG (L:TUIT), which fell 4.06% or 46.00 points to trade at 1088.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) declined 3.83% or 3.5700 points to end at 89.5400 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) was down 2.79% or 16.50 points to 576.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1098 to 1039 and 442 ended unchanged.
Shares in Imperial Tobacco Group PLC (L:IMT) rose to all time highs; up 3.91% or 135.00 to 3589.00.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.37% or 4.00 to $1084.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.25% or 0.10 to hit $40.64 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.92% or 0.85 to trade at $43.62 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.20% to 1.5207, while EUR/GBP fell 0.45% to 0.7038.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 99.38.
