Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.70%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO), which rose 2.47% or 11.40 points to trade at 472.10 at the close. Meanwhile, International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) added 0.74% or 4.50 points to end at 614.00 and Next PLC (L:NXT) was up 0.55% or 40.00 points to 7275.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Glencore PLC (L:GLEN), which fell 3.54% or 3.3000 points to trade at 89.8000 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (L:HIK) declined 2.80% or 66.00 points to end at 2292.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (L:STAN) was down 2.53% or 14.700 points to 566.100.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1176 to 868 and 452 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.79% or 8.40 to $1059.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.01% or 1.14 to hit $36.73 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.82% or 1.06 to trade at $36.73 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.4830, while EUR/GBP fell 0.26% to 0.7353.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 98.47.
