Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Electronic & Electrical Equipment and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP), which rose 4.22% or 50.00 points to trade at 1236.00 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) added 4.13% or 83.00 points to end at 2093.00 and DCC (LON:DCC) was up 3.67% or 265.0 points to 7495.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which lost 4.92% or 8.85 points to trade at 171.10 in late trade. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) declined 3.85% or 10.10 points to end at 252.30 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 2.79% or 27.80 points to 967.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1279 to 667 and 447 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.17% or 2.12 to $1256.72 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.58% or 0.26 to hit $44.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.75% or 0.35 to trade at $47.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.21% to 1.2784, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8754.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 97.17.
