Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Engineering and Mining sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.76% to hit a new 1-month low.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BAE Systems PLC (L:BAES), which rose 3.81% or 16.700 points to trade at 455.000 at the close. Meanwhile, BT Group PLC (L:BT) added 1.30% or 6.200 points to end at 481.650 and National Grid PLC (L:NG) was up 1.01% or 9.20 points to 916.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR), which fell 19.57% or 130.50 points to trade at 536.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) declined 8.70% or 42.85 points to end at 449.90 and Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) was down 7.64% or 7.9300 points to 95.9200.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1617 to 520 and 399 ended unchanged.
Shares in Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (L:RR) fell to 5-year lows; falling 19.57% or 130.50 to 536.50. Shares in BT Group PLC (L:BT) rose to all time highs; rising 1.30% or 6.200 to 481.650. Shares in Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) fell to 5-year lows; falling 8.70% or 42.85 to 449.90.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 6.20 to $1078.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.89% or 1.24 to hit $41.69 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.60% or 1.21 to trade at $45.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.5206, while EUR/GBP rose 0.39% to 0.7088.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 98.85.
