Investing.com – France stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Oil & Gas and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 rose 2.34%, while the SBF 120 index gained 2.23%.
The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA), which rose 11.08% or 0.42 points to trade at 4.17 at the close. Meanwhile, Technip (PA:TECF) added 5.88% or 2.66 points to end at 47.90 and Solvay SA (BR:SOLB) was up 4.19% or 3.98 points to 98.98 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Alcatel Lucent SA (PA:ALUA), which rose 0.48% or 0.017 points to trade at 3.590 at the close. Cap Gemini SA (PA:CAPP) added 1.00% or 0.84 points to end at 84.46 and Safran SA (PA:SAF) was up 1.04% or 0.65 points to 62.93.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) which rose 11.08% to 4.17, Maurel Et Prom (PA:MAUP) which was up 9.90% to settle at 3.04 and CGG (PA:GEPH) which gained 9.75% to close at 2.74.
The worst performers were Ipsen (PA:IPN) which was down 1.44% to 58.69 in late trade, Adocia (PA:ADOC) which lost 0.97% to settle at 73.280 and Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS) which was down 0.30% to 310.65 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 514 to 223 and 55 ended unchanged.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was down 10.64% to 19.65 a new 1-month low.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.49% or 5.30 to $1068.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 4.01% or 1.45 to hit $37.59 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.95% or 1.06 to trade at $37.17 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.76% to 1.0874, while EUR/GBP fell 1.01% to 0.7314.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.43% at 98.63.
