Investing.com – Spain equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Financial Services & Real Estate, Building & Construction and Telecoms & IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Madrid, the IBEX 35 lost 1.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the IBEX 35 were Bankia (MC:BKIA), which rose 0.85% or 0.006 points to trade at 0.710 at the close. Melia Hotels (MC:MEL) fell 0.04% or 0.005 points to end at 10.990 and Indra A (MC:IDR) was down 0.13% or 0.015 points to 11.605 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Banco Popular (MC:POP), which lost 4.38% or 0.054 points to trade at 1.180 in late trade. ACS Const. (MC:ACS) declined 3.46% or 0.885 points to end at 24.720 and Arcel. Mittal (MC:MTS) shed 3.28% or 0.191 points to 5.627.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 158 to 32 and 21 ended unchanged on the Madrid Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.51% or 6.90 to $1350.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.41% or 0.19 to hit $46.39 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.28 to trade at $49.51 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.13% to 1.1263, while EUR/GBP rose 0.24% to 0.8666.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.17% at 94.91.
