Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Energy, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP), which rose 7.06% or 0.250 points to trade at 3.790 at the close. Husky Energy Inc . (TO:HSE) added 6.91% or 1.05 points to end at 16.24 and Precision Drilling Corporation (TO:PD) was up 6.49% or 0.36 points to 5.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ), which lost 6.59% or 0.300 points to trade at 4.250 in late trade. HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) declined 4.11% or 0.26 points to end at 6.07 and Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TO:LIF) shed 3.86% or 0.56 points to 13.93.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 656 to 498 and 145 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.30% to 14.45.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.60% or 8.25 to $1364.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.05% or 1.60 to hit $41.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 3.76% or 1.57 to trade at $43.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7651, while CAD/EUR rose 1.00% to 0.6862.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.51% at 95.50.
