Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Rubber, Pharmaceutical Industry and Glass sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 5.19% or 22.0 points to trade at 446.0 at the close. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) added 3.22% or 17.0 points to end at 545.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) was up 2.90% or 11.0 points to 390.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107), which lost 4.52% or 13.0 points to trade at 274.5 in late trade. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 4.40% or 14.2 points to end at 308.2 and Kirin Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2503) shed 2.38% or 56.5 points to 2319.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1841 to 1294 and 329 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.72% to 14.05.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.56% or 0.24 to $42.98 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.53% or 0.24 to hit $45.46 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.70% or 8.72 to trade at $1258.12 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.07% to 111.25, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 124.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 97.01.
