Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.06% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which rose 3.69% or 18.50 points to trade at 520.50 at the close. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) added 2.00% or 21.00 points to end at 1070.00 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was up 1.91% or 17.80 points to 951.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which lost 1.41% or 6.700 points to trade at 469.300 in late trade. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) declined 1.33% or 8.700 points to end at 646.500 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 1.07% or 12.00 points to 1112.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 816 to 649 and 536 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.31% or 3.45 to $1134.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.04% or 0.02 to hit $52.97 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.11 to trade at $55.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.2255, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8526.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.05% at 103.02.
