Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Mining and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO), which rose 2.66% or 64.00 points to trade at 2472.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 2.44% or 26.00 points to end at 1093.00 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 2.13% or 66.00 points to 3167.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which lost 2.76% or 45.00 points to trade at 1584.00 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 2.11% or 23.00 points to end at 1069.00 and Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) shed 1.75% or 29.00 points to 1631.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1336 to 553 and 484 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.02% or 0.30 to $1252.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.31% or 1.14 to hit $50.49 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.30% or 1.21 to trade at $53.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.59% to 1.3016, while EUR/GBP rose 0.13% to 0.8596.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 97.17.
