Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 7.62% or 0.58 points to trade at 8.19 at the close. Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS) added 7.02% or 0.74 points to end at 11.28 and Canfor Corporation (TSX:CFP) was up 5.17% or 0.55 points to 11.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG), which lost 6.70% or 0.29 points to trade at 4.04 in late trade. Ensign Energy Services Inc (TSX:ESI) declined 3.96% or 0.17 points to end at 4.12 and Tourmaline Oil Corp . (TSX:TOU) shed 3.90% or 0.65 points to 16.03.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 610 to 448 and 128 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.94% to 11.17.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 2.32% or 32.25 to $1421.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 4.69% or 2.77 to hit $56.32 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.08% or 0.05 to trade at $62.58 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7629, while CAD/EUR fell 0.02% to 0.6758.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 96.305.
