Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.04% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 10.14% or 2.72 points to trade at 29.54 at the close. Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA) added 9.78% or 2.000 points to end at 22.460 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 8.76% or 6.01 points to 74.63 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CAE Inc. (TSX:CAE), which lost 7.59% or 2.94 points to trade at 35.77 in late trade. SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC) declined 6.75% or 1.79 points to end at 24.72 and Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX:CIGI) shed 3.18% or 4.32 points to 131.36.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 765 to 277 and 112 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.20% or 36.95 to $1714.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.86% or 1.21 to hit $63.84 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.30% or 0.89 to trade at $67.35 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7910, while CAD/EUR fell 0.26% to 0.6649.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 91.993.
