Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.27% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which rose 13.96% or 2.58 points to trade at 21.06 at the close. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) added 11.25% or 69.82 points to end at 690.33 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 11.10% or 1.41 points to 14.11 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enerflex Ltd . (TSX:EFX), which lost 8.53% or 0.50 points to trade at 5.36 in late trade. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) declined 7.26% or 0.22 points to end at 2.81 and Secure Energy Services Inc . (TSX:SES) shed 7.09% or 0.10 points to 1.31.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 711 to 372 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.58% or 10.25 to $1751.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 7.50% or 1.68 to hit $20.73 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 5.39% or 1.71 to trade at $30.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7200, while CAD/EUR fell 0.43% to 0.6558.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 98.862.
