Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which rose 34.86% or 0.380 points to trade at 1.470 at the close. NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) added 32.95% or 3.96 points to end at 15.98 and Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD) was up 31.94% or 5.75 points to 23.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX), which lost 10.93% or 2.27 points to trade at 18.49 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) declined 8.22% or 0.030 points to end at 0.335 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) shed 7.69% or 0.21 points to 2.52.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 796 to 324 and 66 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.82% or 13.45 to $1646.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 5.59% or 1.37 to hit $23.12 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.41% or 0.66 to trade at $26.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.14% to 0.7125, while CAD/EUR fell 0.33% to 0.6452.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.53% at 99.453.
