Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Construction and Transport sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214), which rose 5.32% or 40.0 points to trade at 792.0 at the close. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104) added 3.76% or 12.0 points to end at 331.5 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was up 3.44% or 7.0 points to 210.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Meat Packers, Inc. (T:2282), which lost 2.61% or 95.0 points to trade at 3540.0 in late trade. Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413) declined 2.01% or 24.0 points to end at 1172.0 and Haseko Corp (T:1808) shed 1.84% or 27.5 points to 1466.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1903 to 1260 and 295 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.14% to 14.03.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.61% or 0.27 to $44.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.87% or 0.41 to hit $47.33 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.20% or 2.57 to trade at $1257.17 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.34% to 111.31, while EUR/JPY rose 0.58% to 124.34.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.37.
