Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Industrials and Transportation & Logistics sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.44% to hit a new 52-week high, while the MDAX index gained 0.59%, and the TecDAX index climbed 0.47%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Boerse AG Z.UMT. (DE:DB11), which rose 1.80% or 1.51 points to trade at 85.37 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) added 1.60% or 3.25 points to end at 206.30 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) was up 1.58% or 1.65 points to 105.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn), which lost 4.19% or 3.030 points to trade at 69.330 in late trade. Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) declined 1.32% or 0.114 points to end at 8.537 and Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) shed 0.80% or 0.130 points to 16.035.

The top performers on the MDAX were Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG (DE:PBBG) which rose 2.69% to 11.64, Salzgitter AG (DE:SZGG) which was up 2.53% to settle at 34.230 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which gained 2.33% to close at 60.530.

The worst performers were Deutsche Wohnen AG Inh (DE:DWNG) which was down 1.59% to 30.550 in late trade, LEG Immobilien AG (DE:LEGn) which lost 1.13% to settle at 75.550 and STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which was down 1.03% to 56.640 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Morphosys AG O.N. (DE:MORG) which rose 2.49% to 55.550, Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which was up 2.26% to settle at 11.300 and Qiagen NV (DE:QGEN) which gained 1.90% to close at 27.140.

The worst performers were STRATEC Biomedical AG (DE:SBSG) which was down 2.22% to 55.820 in late trade, United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which lost 0.95% to settle at 41.900 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which was down 0.85% to 23.920 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 466 to 275 and 25 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.19% to 14.81.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.53% or 6.70 to $1247.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.35% or 0.67 to hit $50.18 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.84% or 0.44 to trade at $52.98 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.37% to 1.0725, while EUR/GBP fell 0.85% to 0.8585.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 100.02.
