Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Transportation & Logistics and Basic Resources sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 2.62% to hit a new 3-month low, while the MDAX index declined 2.51%, and the TecDAX index lost 4.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG), which fell 0.29% or 0.045 points to trade at 15.510 at the close. Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn) fell 0.45% or 0.320 points to end at 70.330 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) was down 1.04% or 0.86 points to 82.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which lost 5.38% or 1.210 points to trade at 21.260 in late trade. Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) declined 5.23% or 1.460 points to end at 26.460 and Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) shed 3.84% or 6.58 points to 164.80.
The top performers on the MDAX were Innogy SE (DE:IGY) which rose 1.52% to 30.800, Hannover Rueck SE (DE:HNRGn) which was up 0.83% to settle at 109.50 and Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which gained 0.34% to close at 59.200.
The worst performers were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 8.89% to 0.40 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which lost 5.86% to settle at 139.85 and Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was down 5.47% to 85.060 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Slm Solution G (DE:AM3D) which fell 1.02% to 38.85, Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 1.64% to settle at 3.908 and CompuGroup Medical AG O.N. (DE:COPMa) which lost 1.68% to close at 46.880.
The worst performers were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which was down 10.61% to 15.510 in late trade, S&T AG (F:SANT1) which lost 9.88% to settle at 19.880 and Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was down 8.58% to 112.900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 153 and 54 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 28.35% to 26.57 a new 52-week high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.40% or 5.20 to $1319.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.36% or 0.84 to hit $60.95 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.11% or 0.73 to trade at $64.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.23% to 1.2234, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.8795.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 90.27.
