Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Retail and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Utilities and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.47%, while the MDAX index added 0.12%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Vonovia SE (DE:VNAn), which rose 1.18% or 0.48 points to trade at 41.32 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) added 0.62% or 1.50 points to end at 245.30 and Beiersdorf AG O.N. (DE:BEIG) was up 0.50% or 0.480 points to 97.160 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which lost 1.79% or 3.30 points to trade at 180.70 in late trade. Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) declined 1.59% or 0.480 points to end at 29.640 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) shed 1.53% or 1.42 points to 91.42.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 16.13% to 0.46, Zalando SE (DE:ZALG) which was up 4.71% to settle at 46.69 and Aurubis AG (DE:NAFG) which gained 1.58% to close at 83.420.
The worst performers were Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which was down 2.69% to 168.40 in late trade, GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which lost 1.32% to settle at 39.670 and Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which was down 1.16% to 71.380 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which rose 3.11% to 13.600, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which was up 2.19% to settle at 28.980 and Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which gained 1.44% to close at 12.650.
The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 4.46% to 10.610 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 2.36% to settle at 6.625 and GFT Technologies AG (DE:GFTG) which was down 2.28% to 13.300 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 434 to 278 and 99 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.81% to 12.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.16% or 2.10 to $1335.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.28% or 0.18 to hit $63.91 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.22% or 0.15 to trade at $69.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.23% to 1.2233, while EUR/GBP fell 0.48% to 0.8845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 90.35.
