Investing.com – Germany equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Basic Resources, Food & Beverages and Technology sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Media and Transportation & Logistics sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.17%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.04%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG), which rose 2.68% or 5.000 points to trade at 191.900 at the close. Fresenius Medical Care KGAA ST (DE:FMEG) added 2.45% or 1.840 points to end at 76.950 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) was up 1.93% or 0.435 points to 22.925 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 2.43% or 0.440 points to trade at 17.660 in late trade. Deutsche Telekom AG Na (DE:DTEGn) declined 0.88% or 0.145 points to end at 16.245 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) shed 0.84% or 0.850 points to 100.850.
The top performers on the MDAX were Osram Licht AG (F:OSRn) which rose 3.37% to 51.443, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) which was up 3.25% to settle at 64.090 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which gained 2.92% to close at 105.700.
The worst performers were Fuchs Petrolub AG VZO Pref (DE:FPEG_p) which was down 2.90% to 39.320 in late trade, Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) which lost 2.14% to settle at 63.600 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was down 2.12% to 56.400 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Alix Resources Corp (F:37N2) which rose 12.50% to 0.036, Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which was up 5.16% to settle at 47.200 and Xing AG (DE:OBCGn) which gained 3.60% to close at 181.300.
The worst performers were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 3.55% to 8.548 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which lost 1.92% to settle at 7.700 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 1.88% to 52.690 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 393 to 368 and 23 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.63% to 15.05.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.07% or 0.85 to $1185.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.92% or 0.48 to hit $51.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.63 to trade at $54.31 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.09% to 1.0565, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8685.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 101.94.
