Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Mining and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 4.64% or 39.50 points to trade at 890.00 at the close. AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) added 2.28% or 105.00 points to end at 4710.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 2.27% or 6.45 points to 290.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO), which lost 5.65% or 149.00 points to trade at 2490.00 in late trade. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) declined 3.89% or 66.00 points to end at 1630.00 and GKN PLC (LON:GKN) shed 1.73% or 6.20 points to 352.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1267 to 662 and 456 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.75% or 9.26 to $1217.84 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.03% or 0.48 to hit $45.95 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.95% or 0.47 to trade at $48.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.2944, while EUR/GBP fell 0.43% to 0.8404.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 99.47.
