Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Staples, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR), which rose 7.75% or 0.66 points to trade at 9.18 at the close. Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb) added 7.05% or 1.50 points to end at 22.77 and Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) was up 6.98% or 0.240 points to 3.680 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW), which lost 2.92% or 0.54 points to trade at 17.96 in late trade. TORC Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:TOG) declined 2.77% or 0.21 points to end at 7.38 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE) shed 2.68% or 0.59 points to 21.46.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 572 to 547 and 153 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.06% to 17.43.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.18% or 2.35 to $1326.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.72% or 1.22 to hit $43.68 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 2.36% or 1.11 to trade at $45.99 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.18% to 0.7577, while CAD/EUR fell 0.46% to 0.6733.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 95.31.
