Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Software & Computer Services and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 2.96% or 77.00 points to trade at 2676.00 at the close. Shire PLC (LON:SHP) added 2.60% or 100.00 points to end at 3942.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) was up 2.13% or 4.2000 points to 201.6500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which lost 10.52% or 44.600 points to trade at 379.200 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.79% or 28.00 points to end at 975.00 and Standard Life PLC (LON:SL) shed 2.49% or 9.200 points to 360.100.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1090 to 1000 and 443 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 0.32% or 4.00 to $1248.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.24% or 0.10 to hit $41.42 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.23 to trade at $41.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.14% to 1.4207, while EUR/GBP rose 0.87% to 0.7892.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 95.67.
