Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Forestry & Paper and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 6.22% or 80.00 points to trade at 1366.00 at the close. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) added 3.96% or 21.00 points to end at 551.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 3.23% or 16.40 points to 525.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN), which lost 8.86% or 162.00 points to trade at 1667.50 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 6.91% or 75.20 points to end at 1012.40 and Just Eat (LON:JE) shed 5.70% or 35.60 points to 589.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1169 to 945 and 218 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.38% or 5.75 to $1488.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.78% or 0.42 to hit $53.45 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.93% or 0.55 to trade at $58.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.2972, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8597.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.028.
