Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, General Industrial and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:SKG), which rose 3.41% or 86.00 points to trade at 2608.00 at the close. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) added 2.76% or 107.00 points to end at 3980.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) was up 2.43% or 114.00 points to 4808.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 2.92% or 23.60 points to trade at 784.20 in late trade. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) declined 1.84% or 38.00 points to end at 2024.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 1.79% or 1.24 points to 67.86.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1164 to 916 and 230 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 4.75 to $1520.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.64% or 0.36 to hit $56.66 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.62 to trade at $61.57 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.39% to 1.2281, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.8982.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 98.377.
