Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Software & Computer Services and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BHP Group PLC (LON:BHPB), which rose 2.24% or 51.50 points to trade at 2,353.00 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 2.18% or 0.88 points to end at 41.46 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 1.92% or 97.00 points to 5,157.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which lost 9.38% or 47.60 points to trade at 460.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.43% or 18.60 points to end at 401.00 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) shed 4.02% or 238.00 points to 5,678.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1014 to 607 and 463 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.40% or 7.85 to $1,993.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.57% or 0.48 to hit $84.22 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.86% or 0.76 to trade at $88.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.20% to 1.21, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.11% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 106.21.
