Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Chemicals, Industrial Metals & Mining and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 18.89% or 353.50 points to trade at 2,225.00 at the close. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) added 5.89% or 121.00 points to end at 2,175.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 3.84% or 132.50 points to 3,586.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which lost 7.17% or 145.50 points to trade at 1,883.50 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 4.33% or 5.50 points to end at 121.54 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) shed 2.57% or 31.50 points to 1,194.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1125 to 728 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.87% or 16.46 to $1,907.76 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.32% or 1.39 to hit $106.75 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.57% or 1.68 to trade at $108.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.04% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.37% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 103.03.
