Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electrical, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.74% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 4.10% or 55.00 points to trade at 1,396.50 at the close. National Grid PLC (LON:NG) added 3.59% or 42.00 points to end at 1,211.00 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) was up 3.51% or 61.00 points to 1,797.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which lost 3.34% or 4.25 points to trade at 122.95 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) declined 2.97% or 42.50 points to end at 1,389.00 and CRH PLC (LON:CRH) shed 2.93% or 90.00 points to 2,980.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1044 to 915 and 399 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.54% or 10.50 to $1,923.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.24% or 0.25 to hit $103.53 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.22 to trade at $107.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.28% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.37% at 99.35.
