Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Travel & Leisure and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.79%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 9.36% or 125.4 points to trade at 1465.4 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 7.75% or 6.98 points to end at 97.00 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 7.47% or 552.0 points to 7946.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Avast PLC (LON:AVST), which lost 1.46% or 8.60 points to trade at 581.40 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 0.88% or 23.00 points to end at 2603.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 0.83% or 6.40 points to 762.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1555 to 628 and 230 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.36% or 6.45 to $1804.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 4.82% or 3.24 to hit $70.44 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 4.30% or 2.98 to trade at $72.33 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.48% to 1.3692, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8612.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 92.815.
