Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Electrical, Industrial Engineering and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.51%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE), which rose 9.74% or 71.00 points to trade at 800.00 at the close. AVEVA Group PLC (LON:AVV) added 2.92% or 98.0 points to end at 3459.0 and Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) was up 2.90% or 42.50 points to 1507.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which lost 6.03% or 428.0 points to trade at 6666.0 in late trade. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) declined 4.94% or 840.0 points to end at 16165.0 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 4.28% or 71.00 points to 1587.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1189 to 786 and 484 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.78% or 14.45 to $1868.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.97% or 1.57 to hit $78.17 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.64% or 1.35 to trade at $81.08 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.41% to 1.3482, while EUR/GBP fell 0.34% to 0.8400.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 95.808.
