Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Food & Drug Retailers and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 2.49% or 52.00 points to trade at 2140.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 2.18% or 17.00 points to end at 798.40 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) was up 1.14% or 1.25 points to 110.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 4.05% or 80.00 points to trade at 1897.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 3.97% or 38.20 points to end at 923.40 and Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) shed 3.66% or 4.34 points to 114.16.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1406 to 659 and 315 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.02% or 13.15 to $1299.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.55% or 0.88 to hit $55.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.37% or 0.91 to trade at $65.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.62% to 1.3003, while EUR/GBP rose 1.06% to 0.8644.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 97.278.
