Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Aerospace & Defense and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO), which rose 2.12% or 42.00 points to trade at 2022.00 at the close. J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY) added 1.58% or 3.80 points to end at 244.80 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was up 1.57% or 13.00 points to 842.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 6.06% or 7.55 points to trade at 117.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.79% or 20.00 points to end at 397.60 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) shed 4.22% or 9.10 points to 206.70.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1407 to 830 and 224 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.50% or 8.70 to $1741.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.48% or 1.49 to hit $61.49 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.05% or 1.30 to trade at $64.58 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.40% to 1.3865, while EUR/GBP rose 0.34% to 0.8587.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 91.968.
