Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 3.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 3.07% or 6.00 points to trade at 201.50 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) added 2.64% or 58.0 points to end at 2253.0 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 2.54% or 17.80 points to 720.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 8.87% or 163.0 points to trade at 1675.5 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 8.19% or 65.20 points to end at 730.80 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) shed 7.28% or 56.20 points to 716.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1673 to 494 and 129 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.32% or 22.60 to $1688.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 44.69% or 9.13 to hit $11.30 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 25.73% or 6.58 to trade at $18.99 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.30% to 1.2273, while EUR/GBP rose 1.23% to 0.8839.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 100.388.
