Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF), which rose 9.42% or 0.26 points to trade at 3.02 at the close. Asanko Gold Inc (TO:AKG) added 4.95% or 0.100 points to end at 2.120 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) was up 3.64% or 0.090 points to 2.560 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bonterra Energy Corp (TO:BNE), which lost 5.71% or 0.97 points to trade at 16.01 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TO:CVE) declined 5.30% or 0.65 points to end at 11.61 and Crew Energy Inc (TO:CR) shed 4.65% or 0.19 points to 3.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 594 to 514 and 138 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.44% to 12.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.92% or 11.67 to $1278.67 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.10% or 0.53 to hit $47.83 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.52 to trade at $50.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7402, while CAD/EUR fell 0.44% to 0.6569.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.55% at 96.63.
