Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 3.42% or 54.00 points to trade at 1635.00 at the close. Micro Focus International (LON:MCRO) added 3.30% or 69.00 points to end at 2158.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 2.27% or 19.50 points to 878.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 1.63% or 57.00 points to trade at 3442.50 in late trade. Experian PLC (LON:EXPN) declined 1.51% or 24.00 points to end at 1564.00 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.10% or 7.50 points to 675.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1104 to 769 and 474 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.49% or 5.96 to $1233.46 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.60% or 0.28 to hit $46.26 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.39% or 0.19 to trade at $48.72 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.30% to 1.3061, while EUR/GBP rose 0.37% to 0.8785.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 94.94.
