Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.86%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which rose 5.70% or 16.00 points to trade at 296.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) added 4.66% or 19.80 points to end at 445.00 and Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) was up 3.36% or 2.7900 points to 85.8400 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Marks and Spencer Group PLC (L:MKS), which fell 1.05% or 4.70 points to trade at 442.90 at the close. ITV PLC (L:ITV) declined 0.99% or 2.70 points to end at 268.80 and Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) was down 0.86% or 38.00 points to 4356.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1161 to 968 and 427 ended unchanged.
Shares in Marks and Spencer Group PLC (L:MKS) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.05% or 4.70 to 442.90.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.58% or 6.30 to $1074.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.48% or 0.53 to hit $36.34 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.00% or 0.01 to trade at $36.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.4822, while EUR/GBP rose 0.97% to 0.7405.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 98.08.
