Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Food & Drug Retailers, Food Producers and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.53%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which rose 2.30% or 24.00 points to trade at 1067.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Taylor Wimpey PLC (L:TW) added 2.17% or 4.20 points to end at 198.00 and Meggitt PLC (L:MGGT) was up 1.81% or 6.30 points to 353.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG), which fell 2.51% or 15.00 points to trade at 582.50 at the close. Barclays PLC (L:BARC) declined 2.21% or 5.2500 points to end at 232.0000 and Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS) was down 1.82% or 81.00 points to 4368.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1131 to 1001 and 454 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.43% or 4.90 to $1142.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.87% or 0.40 to hit $46.46 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.64 to trade at $49.44 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.97% to 1.5458, while EUR/GBP fell 0.58% to 0.7130.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.51% at 96.87.
