Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 2.48%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Schroders PLC (L:SDR), which rose 5.75% or 154.00 points to trade at 2832.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Old Mutual PLC (L:OML) added 5.32% or 8.40 points to end at 166.20 and J Sainsbury PLC (L:SBRY) was up 5.23% or 12.400 points to 249.300 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which fell 3.45% or 9.70 points to trade at 271.10 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (L:FRES) declined 0.83% or 5.50 points to end at 659.50 and Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS) was down 0.45% or 18.00 points to 4024.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1482 to 653 and 422 ended unchanged.
Shares in Anglo American PLC (L:AAL) fell to 5-year lows; losing 3.45% or 9.70 to 271.10.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.23% or 2.40 to $1061.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.97% or 1.08 to hit $37.39 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.15% or 0.82 to trade at $38.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.58% to 1.5055, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.7250.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.56% at 98.28.
