Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology Hardware & Equipment, Forestry & Paper and Mobile Telecommunications sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.06%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which rose 8.73% or 22.15 points to trade at 275.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (L:TSCO) added 3.23% or 5.2000 points to end at 166.2000 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (L:MRW) was up 2.98% or 4.90 points to 169.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ashtead Group PLC (L:AHT), which fell 7.77% or 75.00 points to trade at 890.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (L:CCL) declined 6.42% or 232.00 points to end at 3384.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group SA (L:ICAG) was down 4.89% or 27.00 points to 525.50.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1225 to 910 and 392 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.14% or 1.60 to $1114.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 3.20% or 1.03 to hit $33.34 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 3.26% or 1.10 to trade at $35.03 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.92% to 1.4366, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.7624.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.47% at 98.56.
