Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Gas, Water & Multiutilities and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 9.75% or 18.40 points to trade at 207.10 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 2.68% or 8.80 points to end at 337.70 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 2.50% or 24.70 points to 1011.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which lost 4.37% or 43.50 points to trade at 951.00 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 3.96% or 290.00 points to end at 7040.00 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) shed 3.59% or 10.80 points to 290.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1430 to 961 and 403 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.23% or 2.95 to $1266.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.32% or 1.13 to hit $49.82 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.10% or 1.07 to trade at $51.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.2745, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8788.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 96.18.
