Investing.com – France equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Oil & Gas Producers and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 1.59%, while the SBF 120 index fell 1.49%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the CAC 40 were Solvay SA (BR:SOLB), which rose 4.26% or 3.79 points to trade at 92.67 at the close. Vinci SA (PA:SGEF) added 0.86% or 0.56 points to end at 65.50 and Orange SA (PA:ORAN) was up 0.17% or 0.03 points to 14.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN), which lost 6.22% or 2.70 points to trade at 40.70 in late trade. Technip (PA:TECF) declined 4.54% or 2.31 points to end at 48.60 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) shed 4.42% or 0.21 points to 4.64.
The top performers on the SBF 120 were Sopra Steria Group SA (PA:SOPR) which rose 12.45% to 114.70, Solvay SA (BR:SOLB) which was up 4.26% to settle at 92.67 and Spie SA (PA:SPIE) which gained 1.03% to close at 17.660.
The worst performers were Lafargeholcim Ltd (PA:LHN) which was down 6.22% to 40.70 in late trade, Electricite de France SA (PA:EDF) which lost 6.06% to settle at 11.79 and GTT (PA:GTT) which was down 4.61% to 30.73 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 493 to 166 and 112 ended unchanged on the Paris Stock Exchange.
The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 4.33% to 24.50.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.51% or 6.65 to $1289.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 2.79% or 1.25 to hit $43.53 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.99% or 0.91 to trade at $44.92 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.12% to 1.1520, while EUR/GBP rose 0.71% to 0.7917.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.29% at 92.80.
