Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Healthcare, Telecoms and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Northview Apartment REIT (TO:NVU_u), which rose 4.53% or 0.91 points to trade at 21.00 at the close. Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) added 3.96% or 0.20 points to end at 5.25 and Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) was up 3.50% or 0.25 points to 7.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Concordia Healthcare Corp (TO:CXR), which lost 18.63% or 1.63 points to trade at 7.12 in late trade. Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF) declined 7.45% or 0.44 points to end at 5.47 and Alamos Gold Inc (TO:AGI) shed 5.97% or 0.66 points to 10.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 622 to 477 and 148 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.22% to 15.66.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.34% or 4.45 to $1313.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.55% or 0.68 to hit $43.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 0.59 to trade at $46.00 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.47% to 0.7564, while CAD/EUR rose 0.31% to 0.6780.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.83% at 96.07.
